Scented Candles
Let's face it, living in the 21st century is toxic. Not only is there heavy metal exposure but also pesticides, herbicides, ammonia, carcinogens, fluoride, lyme and mold toxin by-products, preservatives and more. And speaking about carcinogens... Did you know that candles can be toxic? Therefore, it is wise to always check the ingredients list.
Most scented candles contain paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum, coal or shale oil. When it's burnt, paraffin wax releases toxic compounds into the air, including acetone, benzene, and toluene – all known as carcinogens. So not only are they damaging the environment but our health, too. If you have time, read up on carcinogens and the effect of it.
The toxins you breathe in go directly into your blood stream adding to your toxin overload. Next time you are buying candles skip the cheap ones I guarantee they are filled with toxins. Rather always read the ingredients list!
We love the brand Paia Copenhagen. They sell a series of scented and non scented candles made from 100% organic soy beans – a biodegradable and renewable resource. They even add an organic cotton wick for a beautiful clean burn. They last for several weeks if not months and you can even reuse the glass. Yeah, for our planet!
